English designer, who is known for men's fashion wear and clothing line with a
special focus on tailoring, is
known for his take on traditional British styling having coined the term
'classics with a twist'. Queen Elizabeth II conferred
knight hood on Sir Paul Smith in the year 2000 for his services to British
fashion industry. The first shop was opened in the year 1970 and now has more
than 300 shops worldwide with an annual turnover of over 200 million pounds.
Paul Smith’s designs offered an eclectic combination of clothes reflecting his
own eclectic personality. Paul Smith has been often credited for reviving boxer
shorts as men’s underwear of choice. Japan is the largest international market
for the brand and also has seen introduction to the Indian markets by the brand
name Paul Smith India.
In the year 2009, Paul Smith provided suits for the Manchester United team. The
true brit show, in the year 1995 marked twenty five years of the existence of
the brand - Paul Smith.
He was awarded the honorary fellowship of the Royal Institute of British Architects, in
the year 2007, for his outstanding contributions to the world of art and design
and also won the Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design award at the British
Fashion Awards for his exceptional contribution to the British fashion industry,
in the year 2011.
